Inspiring WellBeing Episode 3

Awareness of Breath.

Awareness is our super power to create change. One of the gifts we have is our breath. It is what anchors us in the present. It is also the bridge that connects the mind and body together.

We are all born into this world with a deep breath and we will eventually die by taking a deep breath. We can say that life is held by this subtle thread of wind called the breath of life.

We do not not have to think about it because the body ensures of its survival. However, the moment you turn your attention to your breath, everything changes.

Have you ever held onto your breath? How long can you hold your breath for? More importantly, what happens in the process? Breath retention can actually be used therapeutically for managing anxiety and addictions.  I will share more about his in a later episode.

The breath is fascinating. So much can be revealed about our mental and emotional state by paying attention to the rhythm of the breath. The depth of the breath, the inhale exhale ratio, which nostril is more dominate and the quality of the breath we can provide a wealth of information also.

Breath awareness and breath control literally changed my life. There was a time when the kids were little that I would get upset at them for whatever reason. I trained myself to stop whatever I was doing and find my breath. practicing breath control brought me to the present moment and regulating my breath helped me feel more relaxed and in control. Later in my yoga studies learned advance techniques that had a real effect on my emotional wellbeing. I was better able to respond to life versus reacting all the time which made me more responsible for my experience of life. More to come on this.

So getting into the drivers seat of your life begins with breath control.

In the guided practice, I start by sharing the technique of long deep breathing. All breathing should be practiced through the nose. It protects us from bacteria and dust to enter our lungs. This practice of deep breathing is important especially these days to keep your immune system strong by saturating your body with oxygen. Bacteria and viruses do not like an oxygenated and alkaline body. It will strengthen your lungs by using the full capacity of your lungs and it is very detoxifying as it will release any built-up fluids or mucus trapped in the lower lobes. So, if you find yourself coughing up phlegm after the practice, it is a good thing.

I invite you to take a minimum of 3 deep breaths a couple of times a day or practice as a meditation for at least 3 minutes.

Share with your friends so we can keep our lungs strong and healthy to avoid catching this coronavirus. Also, if you want to stay connected, leave your name and email below.
